Governmental Structure

The government of the church is vested in its Congregational Meetings, which exert the right to control all of its affairs, subject to UFMCC By-laws.

Pastor

  • serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Spiritual Leader of the church.
  • is the Moderator of the Board of Directors and Council of Ministries.
  • orders all worship services and acts as Personnel Director.
  • is elected by the membership of the church.

Board of Directors

  • has charge of church property and the physical and financial affairs of the church.
  • has responsibility for collecting and disbursing funds, keeping adequate church records, and making reports to the congregation and UFMCC.
  • serves as the Pastoral Search Committee in the event of a pastoral vacancy.
  • is responsible for providing Standard Operating Procedures.
  • holds monthly meetings that are open to all.
  • members are elected by the membership of the church.

Board of Trustees

  • oversee church property (building and grounds).
  • work with the BOD in deciding major building projects and funding.
  • chairperson is appointed by the BOD, and the chair appoints members which are subject to BOD approval.
  • holds quarterly meetings that are open to all.

Lay Delegates

  • represent our church at the Regional and Fellowship levels.
  • are elected by the membership of the church.
  • carry one vote per 100 members, or portion thereof.

Council of Ministries

  • plans and nurtures the ministries and programming of the church.
  • are appointed by the pastor and approved by the BOD.
  • holds monthly meetings that are open to all.

Members

  • govern and support the church.
  • are the ministers of the church.
  • meet standards of having registered financial support, definite service contribution, and demonstrated interest and loyalty.
  • may be placed on inactive status if they do not meet these requirements for a period of six months to one year.
  • classified as inactive must be notified in writing and given two months to express interest in restoring active membership.
  • classified as inactive are not eligible to vote at Congregational Meetings.

Congregational Meetings

  • must be held annually by each MCC.
  • must be publicized, in writing, to all active members two weeks in advance.
  • must have 20% of the members present in order to conduct business.
  • may be called by the BOD or by petition, signed by 25% of the members, for special purposes.
